Dhaka the capital of Bangladesh has a bustling car scene dominated by imported re-conditioned Japanese cars, mostly Toyota's, although the new luxury car market has seen tremendous growth with cars like BMW, Mercedes, Volvo and even Jaguar becoming a more common sight. The reconditioned cars started flooding the city streets in the early 90's afterthe government introduced new importing laws and reduced taxes. In the budget of 2002, the Bangladesh government banned the import of all reconditioned cars over four years old from Japan and reduced taxes in a bid to increase the sale of brand new cars.
